Meet the researchers of CoNSeRT lab.
Christina Charitou was born on September 2, 1985 in Piraeus, Greece. She received her Electronics Engineering degree from the Technological Education Institute of Piraeus in 2010 and her Master of Science in Networking and Data Communications in 2014. She has teaching experience and experience as a researcher in several National, European and International programs. She is currently a research associate at the COmputer Networks & SErvices Research laboraTory-CONSERT of the University of West Attica (UniWA). Her research interests cover the areas of communication, dissemination, implementation of actions and dissemination of results, project management.
Christos Chatzigeorgiou, received the Bachelor’s degree in “Electronics Engineering” and the M.Sc. degree in “Internetworked Electronic Systems” from the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences, Aigaleo, Greece. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, University of West Attica. His research interests include mobile and wearable computing, privacy, internet of things, and machine learning.
Vasileios Doulgerakis received his Electronics Engineering B.Sc. from the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences in 2016. He has several participations in intelligent car competitions as a student and a working experience for Cranfield University as a Visiting Researcher in robotics and sensors. His interests include Embedded Systems and Electronics Engineering. He has participated in several European and National research projects and is a Researcher of CoNSeRT at the Electrical & Electronics Engineering Dept. of the University of West Attica since 2016.
Nick Kaftantzis was born in Athens, in 1994, and he is a senior student at the Electrical & Electronics Engineering department of University of West Attica. He has experience and skills that he acquired when he worked at Stackmasters. His current research interests include IaaS paltforms(OpenStack), Automation tools (Ansible), Cloud Computing and DevOps, technologies as well as their applications and implementations. Currently, he is a junior researcher at the CoNSeRT team of UniWA.
Panagiotis Kasnesis holds a Ph.D degree in computer science from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Moreover, he received his Diploma degree in chemical engineering and his M.Sc. in techno-economic systems from the NTUA, in 2008 and 2013 respectively. His research interests include machine/deep learning, Semantic Web technologies, multiagent systems, and the Internet of Things, while he has published and presented more than 20 scientific articles in international journals and conferences in these fields. He is a machine learning engineer and semantic application developer at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica (UniWA) and has participated in several European research and development projects. Finally, he is certified as Instructor and University Ambassador, by NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute (DLI), in the tasks of Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision.
Evangelos Katsadouros received his Computer Engineering Bachelor’s degree from the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences in 2017 and he holds a master’s degree from University of Piraeus in “Digital Systems Security”. Currently he is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of West Attica and the subject of his PhD is Network Security and Privacy. Also he is a research associate in CONSERT Lab, working as software/security engineer. His research interests include digital privacy, machine learning and software quality and testing.
Dimitrios G. Kogias (Senior Researcher / Adjunct Lecturer) graduated from the Physics Department of National Kapodestrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 2001, while in 2004 he completed the interdepartmental postgraduate diploma in Electronics and Electrical Engineering from the Departments of Physics and Informatics and Telecommunications (NKUA). In 2010 he received his PhD from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications (NKUA) on the study of information dissemination algorithms in Unstructured Network Environments. He is a Senior Researcher at the ‘ COmputer Networks & SErvices Research laboraTory-CONSERT’ of the University of West Attica (UniWA). His research interests cover the area of Blockchain Technology and Distributed Ledgers. He is UniWA’s representative in the Bloxberg Association (the first blockchain network for science) and is a member of the Advisory Academic Board of the International Association for Trusted Blockchain Applications (INATBA). He is also co-author of the book ‘Blockchain’ which is offered in Greek language with free access by KALLIPOS publications. He is currently appointed as an Associated Editor on Frontiers in Blockchain Journal at the topic “Blockchain for Web3 and the Metaverse”.
Dr. Aristidis Konstantas, was born in Greece, in 1979. He holds a diploma and an MBA from the Agricultural University of Athens, and a PhD in “Certification Systems in Agriculture”. He has participated as a researcher and financial coordinator in several National, European and International programs and has expertise in the planning and execution of trials, and design of evaluation scenarios. He has more than 15 publications in international journals, conferences and chapters of books.
Maria Koukouli holds a Physics BSc (University of Patras) and an MSc in “Environmental Sciences” (University of Patras). She has been working since 2005 in the technical implementation of European projects and as Financial Project Manager. Her academic and professional interests are in the areas of environment, agricultural and regional development, Geographical Information Systems and Environmental Informatics and consulting. She has participated as co-author in several publications in national and international journals and conferences.
Maria Polychronaki was born in Athens on 1995 and is a senior student at the Electrical & Electronics Engineering department of University of West Attica. Main focus of her thesis was the benefits that REST architecture can provide to the communication layers of Internet of Things systems and how it can be implemented using JAVA programming language. Her current research interests include IoT, Blockchain and DLT technologies, as well as their applications and implementations. Currently she is a junior researcher at the CoNSeRT team of UniWA.
Lazaros Toumanidis, received his Electronics Engineering Bachelor’s degree from the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences in 2014 and his Master of Science by research diploma from the University of West Attica in 2020. He was honored with the “Anastasiadis Award” for having the highest grade among the year 2014 graduates of the Department of Electronics. He has worked as a Software Engineer and has been a research associate of the associate of the CoNSeRT research laboratory of the University of West Attica (UniWA) since 2016. He has successfully participated in several European and National research projects.
Dimitris Uzunidis is a senior researcher and an adjunct lecturer at the University of West Attica. He received his B.Sc. degree in Telecommunications and Ph.D. degree in Optical Networking from the University of Peloponnese in 2009 and 2016, respectively. He is currently working as a senior researcher in the field of 6G networks and applications of machine learning. He has participated in more than 10 European projects, and he has more than 60 published works in international conferences and journals. His research interests include performance evaluation of 6G networks, numerical simulation and network optimization, applications of deep learning, and derivation of 6G system requirements.
Nikolaos Voudouris is currently a PhD candidate on Ethical and legal applications of Artificial Intelligence, holds a Master’s in Law in Public International Law (LLM) from the faculty of Law of University of Amsterdam (UvA), has finished a BSc in International European and Regional Studies from Panteion University and a Pre-Master’s in Diplomacy from the University of Oxford (UK) and has attended high level courses in the University of Geneva (UNIGE) and completed high level certification courses from the University of Lund. He was a junior researcher in the European Center of Human Rights and Humanitarian Action from 2015 to 2018. His areas of interest include the ethical application of Artificial Intelligence, ensuring the protection of fundamental rights and the legal, humanitarian implications of technology and the development of trustworthy impact assessment models..
Michael Xevgenis (Post-Doc researcher): He is a research associate at the Computer Network and Services Research Team (CONSERT) of the University of West Attica. He received his PhD degree in 2023 from the Department of Industrial Design and Production Engineering of the University of West Attica. The subject of his PhD research is “Secure Resource Management in Next Generation Networks”, where the Blockchain technology is one of the main fields of study. His research concerns encompass Networking, Cloud Computing and Blockchain technology. In addition, he has participated as the leading instructor in two Master courses in the AIDL and NTST MSc programs. During the last decade he was actively involved in the design and development of CONSERT’s on premises private cloud infrastructure based on OpenStack cloud software, while recently he was nominated as the organizer of OpenStack’s meetup group in Athens supported by the OpenInfra Foundation. The last few years he has participated in several EU projects: TRILLION, STORM and FASTER of H2020
Georgios Χerogiannakis received a degree in electronic engineering from the Technological Educational Institution of Athens. He holds a master’s degree in control engineering from Aalborg University, Denmark. He has worked as a technical support engineer in a telecommunication company and as a process control engineer for power plants in a technical company as well. Currently, he is a member of the lab teaching staff and PhD student at the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of University of West Attica. His research topic focuses on modelling and simulation of dynamic systems, flight dynamic, control and fault detection for autonomous systems..
