How can you discern trustworthy information on social media?


When does social media use become dangerous and what impact does it have on society?

CoNSeRT research laboratory of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the University of West Attica organizes the IEEE Communication Society funded event on:  “Trust in Online Social Networks”.

The event will take place at the Conference Center of the Ancient Olive Grove Campus of the university on Saturday, December 7, 08:00-14:00 (GMT) and consists of two sections. The first section (08:00-12:00 GMT) with invited participants at the conference centre of the university giving presentations in Greek. The second part (12:00-15:00 GMT) consists of online talks in English.

Academics, journalists, researchers and representatives of the authorities and social media will analyse the issue of trust in social media from different perspectives, such as:

  • Technical methodologies addressing disinformation on social media
  • The influence of disinformation in society such as trust in science
  • The challenges of disseminating scientific information in social media
  • How disinformation is addressed in the context of EU
  • Benefits, threats and ethical issues of AI on social media

The event is the first activity of the IEEE Special Interest Group “Trustworthiness in Online Social Networks”, aiming to the establishment of a community dedicated to Trust in Social Media worldwide and it is supported by IEEE Student Branch UniWA.

The event will be covered by ERT, the news programming of the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation, one of the primary sources of public television and radio in Greece.
