CONSEDRE is the CONSERT LAB Repository for Open Educational Resources (OERs), on the topics of:
- NAO Humanoid: NAO is an autonomous, programmable humanoid robot developed by SoftBank Robotics. Due to the equipment it carries (2 cameras, 4 microphones, inertial sensors IMU-gyroscope+3-axis accelerometer,- LED Sonars, WIFI+Ethernet connection) it can integrate many artificial intelligence mechanisms, e.g. NLP/U, computer vision, face+emotion+object recognition, etc.
- Computer Science Unplugged (CSU): Computer Science Unplugged (CSU) is a strategy for teaching Computer Science without the use of technological media (without electricity) through the use of experiential, entertaining educational games.
- Artificial Intelligence for K12, Unplugged & with Responsibility (AI4KUR): AI4KUR aims to help school K12 students, their families, and their local communities to unveil and understand the building blocks of Responsible Artificial Intelligence and its impact on society. The proposed learning strategy is a combination of “AI for Kids (AI4Kids)” and “Computer Science Unplugged (CSU)”.
CONSEDRE is the first OER repository in the Greek and English Language for the above topics, constituting an important ecosystem for the exchange of knowledge and resources. Currently, it has 18 OERs for NAO6 Humanoid, 51 OERs for CSU that have been designed, implemented, tested, and evaluated by school teachers in real education settings. AI4KUR is currently updated.
Key Benefits
- Bring robotics and AI education to schools and local communities
- Deploy humanoids as teaching and learning assistants and animators in the school environment
- Introduce K-12 students or adults (with little or no experience) to the concept Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Motivate critical and creative thinking by converging computational thinking and AI through experiential learning and unplugged activities
- Communicate the fundamental concepts of AI ethics, guiding learners to be responsible and empathetic users of AI technology
- Create an active and open network of teacher-researchers from different EU countries, involving them in the design, implementation, validation and evaluation of the AI4KUR learning paradigm
- Validate, evaluate and sustain the AI4KUR learning paradigm in real educational environments (schools, distance learning, museums, etc.)
Applications
The main idea of CONSEDRE is to bring Robotics, Computer and AI education in learner’s physical environment, with or without electricity. The main target groups of the CONSEDRE include (but not limited to):
- Student population of the schools (ages 4-18): Students implement the CONSEDRE activities in their schools, at home, or even in the physical environment since they don’t need electricity or internet connection to learn CS and AI.
- Educators: School teachers and trainers learning Responsible AI, Computational Thinking, Machine Learning for non-experts, and in producing learning content in the form of Open Educational Resources (OERs), that afterward are shared and exploited within the global educational community.
- Other communities (school communities, teacher networks, peers, etc.) are affected by the diffusion activities that take place in school areas.
CONSEDRE brings Open Education Resources (OERs) as Experiential Learning Games, that could be deployed everywhere, in distance schools with limited resources (unplugged), since they are based on the CSU approach. Learning outcomes have been evaluated through the accomplishment of CONSEDRE activities and learning resources in various learning scenarios (schools, dance studios, museums, festivals, et al.).
